I’m an A-Level/Sixth form student who does 3 essay based subjects. That obviously means a lot of reading to do. When I read over a text I feel like I’m reading with my head and not my brain so I have to re read it over and over again and most of the time it still won’t properly go in.

Does anyone have any tips to overcome this?
I do actually really enjoy reading for leisure it’s just academic reading I think I struggle with although it does sometimes happen when I’m just reading normally .

I have to "touch" the text. If you own the books you can highlight with textmarker. Write Keyworts or Chapter-Titels sideways to summarize a paragraph. If you don't own it, write or draw some notes while you are reading.
If you want you can create flashcards as well.

Yeah.. it’s as if knowledge conveyed has to be poured over the sponge of my brain multiple times for it to absorb it

known problem. after getting diagnosed and using meds i realized i read no book before having meds. i did all actions required to read but with literally zero comprehension.

solutions? 1 take meds 2 switching to audiobooks 3 if knowledge must be retained- make notes. Tons of notes.

I’ve been struggling reading things and retaining it recently.. I find listening to it and writing for points of most important things works for me 😊

Train your mind to always think comprehensively while reading !

Reading is my hiperfocus ever since I learned how to read, but when it comes to academic reading I find it really hard to focus, so I usually read and highlight important information in each paragraph or (if it's something very important) write down these parts. Those 2 strategies helped me through school, college and my master's and now at work 😅
