I'm moving two hours away to be with my grandma tomorrow and to get clean from substance abuse... Any tips or advice for me to stay focused ?

Be kind to yourself, healing isn’t linear. Be proud of yourself for making this change in your life.

Hi! I’m an addict in recovery. I was addicted to meth and opiates. I didn’t know it was my adhd that I was self medicating. Now I don’t take controlled substances export my suboxone. Going to meetings and finding a sponsor is what helped me the most. I also made sober friends! Good luck and congrats!

Talk to your doctor! Even if you’re not interested in meds to curb cravings, there may be resources or supports they can offer to make things better for you. Your doctor should be in your corner and helping you with your medical care! This is a medical problem and one they should be prepared to help you with. Congratulations on working to make a change! It is a huge first step in a good direction. :)

Congratulate yourself often. If you cant practise it on your own, perhaps study how to manage anxiety with chemicals from your own body like a young child would. Spend time with animals and in nature, watch the clouds and the stars for their uplifting effect and soothing effect respectively.

Listen to the Huberman lab podcast - tips based on neuroscience.

But adhd meds could help!

Try “riding out the wave” coping tips. Remember that the feelings will pass and you’ll feel better even if the moment isn’t so good. Be kind to yourself and bring items that make you comfy
