Most definitely 👍

### @iforgotmyname — 2025-03-07T14:19:43.154Z

It's number fluency. We teach these skills to young kids to help with basic fact fluency. Indicates a deeper understanding of math operations as opposed to simply memorizing basic facts. I've heard some people who were raised in the era of memorizing facts refer to it as 'new math' and a waste of time but it's not. It significantly impacts success with math in older grades.

It's an effective method. With young kids we teach doubles first. 4+4, 8+8 then go through doubles + or - 1 then doubles + or - 2. When you can see patterns in math it makes more sense also being taught to see numbers visually in different ways with objects such as base 10 blocks, number line, counters organized in different ways. All helps to build neural pathways in the brain that reinforce concepts so they stick.

100% Or 7+3=10 and 6-3=3 so 7+6=10+3=13

### @fiesty_halfpint — 2023-12-02T01:23:51.564Z

Oh shit didn’t know that was my adhd. I always knew I was a low functioning ADHDer not medicated but I never really knew that I was a low functioning ADHDer until I was out in the world all alone as an adult and holy hell, everything I am, do, love, hate, everything can be traced back to my adhd. It’s fricking nuts

### @bubblesbling — 2023-11-17T03:24:02.881Z

I thought it was only me! :O

### @Aquaholic21 — 2023-11-13T00:58:53.965Z

Definitely. It’s how I got through math in K-12. And why my math homework took 2 hours a day to finish.

### @blukat1219 — 2023-08-10T15:36:37.218Z

Exactly. That is the only way that makes sense!!

### @lostinACDC — 2023-07-30T17:18:11.226Z

OMG... YES!!! But, when I try to explain to folks they think I'm crazy. 😂 It's how I know how old I am.

### @Joelay — 2023-07-27T21:04:36.838Z

Yep, I do this a lot😅

### @distractedqueen — 2023-07-27T15:19:19.231Z

I DO THIS ALL THE TIME. i hate math but this is my logic always

### @ohmu. — 2023-07-27T10:48:27.896Z

Isn't this a pretty universal strategy, regardless of being neurodivergent or not?

### @Unknown — 2023-07-27T10:32:36.588Z

Yes and I’m a biomedical scientist 😂

### @dylyd — 2023-07-19T02:55:41.765Z

Yesss we need a math masterclass for people with adhd my mind doesn’t understand it the way it’s taught!

### @pinkmess — 2023-07-18T22:34:48.389Z

Oh, wow! Never thought about it being related to ADHD. I thought most people did that 🧐

### @TishClark24 — 2023-07-18T18:30:59.037Z

What, is that really an adhd thing? I’ve always done it that way but I didn’t realize it was an adhd thing.

### @Unknown — 2023-07-18T16:02:54.139Z

That’s my go-to math solution for sure! When tipping. “If 10% of $70 is $7, half of that is $3.50, 7.00 + $3.50 … 15% tip is $10.50 🤪

### @kingOsandcastle — 2023-07-18T11:39:32.131Z

Exactly what I do

### @abby.jo — 2023-07-18T05:56:00.064Z

Yessss exactly

### @dropahairdryer — 2023-07-18T02:51:21.446Z

### @GiggleGuru88 — 2023-07-18T01:43:20.987Z

Yup! That’s how I math!

### @librarylandlisa — 2023-07-18T01:42:35.719Z

I could NEVER memorize times tables and still have to do mental math similar to this. I’m 60% done with my PhD but cannot do complicated maths.

### @librarylandlisa — 2023-07-18T01:41:37.433Z

Yes!

### @unserioususer — 2023-07-18T01:20:10.727Z

cause this is literally how i math!
