I have a problem with getting into my own head too much and forgetting to ask people questions about themselves. Any tips?

I have developed a habit to place my index finger over my mouth to be a reminder to me to listen more rather than talk more. I used to want to interrupt people all the time. This little hack, has really helped me to be a better listener.
