I have got this app because i believe i have many symptoms of adhd, how could you tell when you had adhd and how long did it take for diagnosis?

For myself, I had a conversation with a friend whose husband had just gotten his diagnosis and it blew my mind because I thought I knew what ADHD was and realized then I didn’t really, since my friend’s husband didn’t fit with my vision of it… I thought then (in August 2024) « I have some traits in common with this guy : What if I had ADHD too ? » ; then I started documenting myself, and through conversations with other people, I got the name of a psychiatrist specializing in ADHD in adults, got an appointment for the end of january 2025, and got my official diagnosis at the end of february 2025, at my 2nd appointment.
I would recommend you to research through some reliable sources or accounts on the internet or social media, and then look for a doctor that really knows this stuff - not some random mental health professionnal.
I live in France so I don’t know what books would be available to you or not in your country if you’re from somewhere else, but I personally read to great advantage the book by Alice GENDRON, aka la\_mini\_coach\_TDAH on Instagram : it’s called Le Petit Guide Illustré du TDAH (I saw this english version : The Mini ADHD coach - How to (finally) understand yourself).

I wish you good luck for your foray into the ADHD world 😊

Hi ! Would you mind sharing your doctor’s name for me to look up ? I live in France too, Paris to be specific. I have a similar story to yours and have been wanting to go see someone for a diagnose for a while now 🙃

Sorry, I think I mixed up @TryEachDay’s story with @Alf02’s… 😅🙈

I'm also not diagnosed yet. During the last 15 years I got asked multiple times if I had adhd, but it got always dismissed because of the stereotypicle symptoms, those I don't have. Then my husband got diagnosed with audhd (autism and adhd). I read a lot and informed myself about it and found reports to adhd where I could relate. Opened my eyes a lot. For now I implement a few new ideas into my life to help with adhd. So far it changed a bit and I get better through each day.

That’s great if implementing some changes helped you !
I tend to adopt a pragmatic approach now : diagnosis or not, really ADHD or not, what matters is that you find some tools or habits that help improve your life ! 🤗
If you feel there’s something lacking, then you’ll see if you have to explore another path which would explain more things in your Life and help you more, or seek a diagnosis to give you access to medication, but that’s for later maybe. For now : welcome ! Enjoy all the benefits of the Numo community 🥰
