Executive disfunction

I hate how I have something to do, I want to do, I feel myself wanting to do it, and then I just can't. It's like I am getting ready for a road trip with all my tasks completed but no gas in the car. Just me sitting in the car with my itenerary, food, and no gas to move forward. I feel bad about not doing it. My family scolds me saying "you're just lazy" "see, you didn't really want to do it anyway". Those phrases make me feel worse. They make me feel like I am letting myself and them down by not doing the task. When I finally do the task, that only took a fee minutes, I don't feel any better. I feel worse because I procrastinated. I want to scream, I want to cry. I want to turn back time and coach myself to do the task so I don't waste my opportunities.

It’s a roller coaster. This app has helped me realize I’m not alone. You aren’t either! Baby steps. I started 8 hrs sleep, same schedule…added adhd/planning/excercise 45 mins 1st thing a.m. . The routine is helping. Hang in there!

Breaking tasks down into minuscule parts makes all the difference for me. The ADHD brain doesn’t fight against teeny tiny steps like it does for bigger goals. for instance, one of the things I’m attempting to do is get my art studio set up again. I break the steps down into a small a step as possible such as step one: open the door and walk into the studio .

There are a couple things you could try. Counting backwords from 5 to 1 out loud while getting up to do it. Sometimes weirdly it helps to tell yourself out loud NOT to do the task. Probably has something to do with PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance). Or use something you‘re already addicted to. For example if you‘re always on TikTok scrolling, you can allow yourself to do that after the task or during. This is how I get myself to the gym. Or just have someone come with you or be in the same room helping you or doing a similar task. Body doubling helps!

I definitely see you. That changed me with Numo. Like amnal7 wrote, from one night before I dump everything here and I also use the daily and weekly routines alot. In that way, after a sleep, I start with a fresh brain to the day even knowing what I will wear, how many glasses water I will drink, and my bag is already packed one night before, I save every little executive energy that would wasted with these small decisions. So, I turn into a more productive and able person for the day. If you try to save every little executive energy waste, this energy will turn into "making" ability acc. to my experience 😊. I think I wrote too messy, I hope it is understandable 😅.

Adding all tasks to numo & ticking them off does it for me. Take 5 minutes in the morning or previous night & dump absolutely everything you have/want to do that day. I usually edit the list later on if it’s too long & put some tasks to next day… but checking them off even though they take few minutes to do it feels so good !
