Tips on stop getting distracted easily?

I have an exam. I sit at the table. I put the binaural beats on my earphones. I pick up the pencil. Scribble something and then I start fidgeting with the pencil, look at it and then... Boom, at least 2 hours wasted looking at my pencil, fidgeting and thinking on other things. I've tried a lot: pomodoro, white noise, the 5 minute rule, phone in the other room, less things placed in the table and other stuff... Nothing seem to work, unless I actually like what I'm doing (rarely unfortunately) or reeeeally close to the deadline. It stresses me out because I end up pulling all nighters to finish the works and then on the day I look like a zombie. Any solutions? Kinda urgent bc school is going to start in 2 weeks.

I will listen to a song i love to distract me from the thinking. I cant help much bc every workspot i have looks like a bomb went off. So minimal things ive seen help. I use my desk only for laptop second screen and to be able to write. I have another desk next to it that i put everything else. It looks insane but i know where everything is when i need it despite everyone else seeing it as an eye sore. Also you mentioned trying a bunch of things. I will hyperfocus on looking for apps and stuff that will “improve productivity” instead of doin the work. Anything to procrastinate lol, because i know realistically they wont. And unless u need ur phone throw it out the window whrn u sit down unless u need it.

The song tip will moste likely distract me but I'm glad it works for you. The one about having a another desk I do something similar that is having the things on a drawer that is under the desk. Trying to find apps for productivity is sooo relatable omg also I'm going to try more to have my phone not with me. I'm starting tomorrow, wish me luck and thank you for your sharing!

I would suggest a physical visible timer. I purchased a time timer. My daughter uses one already and it helps way better. But still you need to "obey" it.start with smal intervals of 15 minutes. When it rings, check in if you are still on your task. If so another 15 minutes. If not share you head get a little arm stretch and set another 15minutes timer. You adjust the lengths gradually and over time you can improve your focus time

Maybe your getting distracted by your thoughts, try to do some journaling or coloring with your left hand

Did you try an app like Forest or ChickFocus, where you can grow a tree or raise a chicken if you work/stay focused for 5 or 10 or 15 mn ? I know it really helps me get started or just go forward on tasks that really bore me…

The only thing I could ad to try: Cut it into smaller peaces - and if it’s not working, into smaller peaces again. When I studied I closed my room by key, not to get a “Coffey” and to loose focus. And: I learned by night- everybody is less reachable and for me communication helped me out.

Thanks! I can't lock my room by key, but I will make sure to add a sticky note on the door as a reminder to stay focused. I also work better by the night haha
