ADHD Medication

What’s everyone’s thoughts on ADHD medication??? I was recently actually diagnosed in the past 2 years but I have struggled with ADHD all my life (but now I have an actual diagnosis) I was recently put on a stimulant medication (dexamphetamine) In my opinion it’s not a horrible medication I have lots of good things come from it but I also feel very angry, easily irritated and real snappy? Does this mean that this medication isn’t for me or the dose is too high? Also just want to know what everyone thinks about ADHD Medication and if it’s even worth being on it or not.

Im on Dexamphetamines. Love hate relationship with it, there’s Pros & Cons for me. Pros: - Can actually do my tasks leading to me feeling happy. “Damn I should take my meds more often” - motivated & more organised. - My depression disappears. Cons: - Decreased appetite: I LOVEE eating but the fact I can’t finish my meals, annoys me. ESPECIALLY when someone pays for it, I feel bad that I’m wasting food & the fact I gotta force myself to eat when needing to bulk for gym 😭 - weight loss (decreased appetite) - Agitaged/snappy/brain fog: once I stop taking it after being consistent with it. - I don’t like being on it everyday, because sometimes I want my brain to relax.

ADHD medication helps me while studying and driving, but making me feel weird on a daily basis So I only take them when I need them

adhd medication helped me through elementry but as i needed a higher dose going into hs i stopped taking it because of the side affects being too much for me. I think it helps people who cant self regulate but not people who can(effectively) like me!

I was officially diagnosed with ADHD this past year at age 53. I’ve always known I had it, but just never talk to anyone about it. when we discussed medications, I wanted to try a non-stimulant to start off with. I am taking Strattera started at 20 mg, then moved to 40, and I am currently on 60 mg I have seen a big difference.

I just started Strattera and it has really helped me, too. Diagnosed age 50.

Then I was younger I used another med and it worked in the day but like in the evening then the med stopped working I got like really emotional and cried and like said to dad I didn’t want to live and stuff. Idk why I did that but I remember I felt sad for real. Then doc changed med and it’s not like that anymore. Maybe you should ask your doctor to try another med?

You should talk to the doctor that is controlling the meds and your psychologist :) they know what you are talking about and will help.

I think this is a very personal issue - the positive and negative effects both vary greatly from person to person. I have also noticed a somewhat reduced tolerance for negative behavior, but to me it feels like this comes from slowly unmasking. The meds definitely help me in this process, but I would say that’s a side effect, it’s just a part of my personality that was suppressed and is now coming out more. The ability to do boring, but necessary tasks is so much better with meds. For me it’s definitely helpful, but as stated before, this is individual to each person.

Yeah I definitely agree! Everyone is different when it comes to meds. I have seen so many positive improvements but my family just see that I’m easily irritated and snappy. They have said they think the meds are changing who I am. I see where they are coming from but also I don’t believe the meds are “changing me” but again I don’t really know I’m so new to the medication

I have definitely changed but in a positive way. I now like who I am. I am better at critical thinking, organized (mostly), better at expressing myself, confident. It’s still a journey but I am enjoying it.

I am on the same medication as you and it has helped me tremendously. I did however go through an adjustment period where in the afternoon around three p.m. I would get super anxious 😬. Not even my anxiety meds touched it. But it only lasted two weeks and went away. In regards to the being snappy, moody and irritability I have found that is when my body wants food. I forget to eat on these meds so that is my signal stop what you are doing and eat a decent meal. It really does help. 💖
