Lost in the ADHD sauce

Does anybody feel like their adhd is the reason why they’re not as successful in life as you could be? Like if I could just keep my house clean I could always be ready to take a client but there’s been so many times I’ve missed an opportunity because my house and my work room was messy which in turn is missing out on money 😩😩😩😩😩😩. Executive function and task initiation and procrastination go away! And don’t come back another day! I’m also 2 days away from a trip that was already a bad idea financially but it’s too late to back out of so I’m gonna make the best of it. But I don’t want to come back to a messy house but the more I procrastinate the more I’ll have to do at once and the more overwhelmed I’ll become and I’m just gonna end up coming back to a dirty house 😞😞😞😞😞😞

I understand! I ask myself also how things would be for me now if I had received the necessary resources as a child. Hmmm

100% it has without a doubt kept me mired in mediocrity. The ideas and thoughts in my brain are so big, but the simple ability to even get out of the house on time and fully functional keeps them and the notion that I could achieve any of it squarely locked away and wholly unfulfilled or realized.

I think about this all time and how my life would be different if I didn’t have ADHD. I have the appetite for big things but never the stamina.

I am 100% the same way. I'm scared it will rub off on my Kids

I’m not tenure track, but feel like I can relate. I’ve been at my university for 11 years & struggle with tasks related to executive function — of course. I’m just now looking at possibilities for accommodations. Teaching the same course for two semesters in a row would be a nice start. 🤞

Yes, I can totally relate. I had a tenure track job as a college professor; I worked at this school for over 10 years and when my review for tenure came up the chair of my department convinced the rest of the committee (colleagues and friends) to deny my promotion and tenure, which also meant I would lose my position. The letter describing the reasons was essentially a list of executive functions. Side note: just prior to the review I went through the arduous process of getting accommodations…I got them, but apparently they ignored them during my review. I am still hunting for a work environment that doesn’t require I magically transform myself into someone without ADHD.

I haven’t tried it myself because I just heard about it earlier this week, but some people are putting lamented task lists in different areas of their houses depending on where it is and what needs done. It’s for whiteboard marker use and apparently that helps. I’m looking into trying it

You just described my life in a nutshell. Procrastination and task initiation are my 2 biggest downfalls. I've tried my whole life to overcome them with no luck so far

Has anyone tried fly lady? That’s the only way I keep everything clean in my house and it’s super non-judgmental and manageable.

Oh I get this! Task initiation and procrastination are the worst for me, I have all these great ideas, want to own my own business etc and I know I could do amazing things if I could just focus and get stuff done

Girl I’m right where you are. I’ve had a goal to have all my rooms cleaned at once for 3 years and I told myself this week that before 2024 I WILL DO IT!!! It’s so hard but we’ve got this. At least do the kitchen, bathroom, clean fridge, and laundry before you go.
