a levels

Hi guys I’m a second year a-level student and i kinda feel like i’m drowning. I’ve got mocks coming up and i’m so far behind and even if i could get myself to start revising i wouldn’t even know where to start which is also making me feel like i just can’t do it. i don’t know if that makes sense. it’s also making me terrified for the real things in a few months. probably shouldn’t have chosen 3 essay subjects but ah well. with gcses it was easy i didn’t do any revision for sm and still did great cus ive always been naturally smart but now i actually have to try i dont know how and i cant make myself do it and im scared im gonna fail dont know if anyone can relate maybe i just needed to rant but any tips would be greatly appreciated thanks guys we’re all in this together

I can DEFINITELY relate to that. My therapist told me when I don’t know where to start, just start. There have been some helpful hints like making a to-do list and breaking each task down by steps and then only allotting a certain amount of time per activity (so we don’t get lost in the sauce and before we know it, it’s Tuesday of next week and we’re in another state…or something hahah). That has helped me. And using timers as I go. I HIGHLY recommend timers. And don’t forget to take breaks between tasks! You got this!! We ADHD-ers THRIVE under pressure and it sounds like the pressure is on for you now. Take a few deeps breaths and do the damn thing! 🫶🏼

I use bilateral stimulation music to help me focus (you can find playlist on YouTube and Spotify) they are very calming and help me get in the grove whenever I have to do a task I find hard or overwhelming

How I got through a levels is i basically made myself go to the library every day for an hour after classes. I could sit in the library and do nothing but more often than not I opened a text book and had a look at the work - also don’t be afraid to ask for accommodations!

long story short 2 advice I would give to my younger self when I was in a similar situation while studying at Lancaster Uni : The first hour of your day sets the tone for the entire day , no messages no social media be extremely cautious. and the second : Write down why you procrastinate, and then write a plan for someone who is in your situation using your logical / rational mind and then once it’s done apply it to yourself and ignore your emotions.

Hi ! I totally relate this when I was studying at Lancaster Uni I had tons of essay to write and I used to procrastinate every single day and at the end I rushed essays the night before the due date. The advice I would give to my younger self would be to be EXTREMLY careful during the first hour of the day and to absoluetly not pick up the phone to check messages and scroll through social media because this would wire my brain for quick shots of dopamine and every single time I thought about the essay I would scroll even more to relief the stress caused by this simple thought. Second advice: Write down why you procrastinate, every emotions linked to this and if you were to help someone who is in your situation, write down a plan for that person using your logical mind and then apply it to yourself. Hope that helps ! Good luck and take care of your mental health, good days will come again 🙂‍↕️

So real, I’m doing 3 essay based a levels and it is honestly the worst thing I’ve ever had to go through and especially when you have ADHD it makes it extra hard to keep track of everything and be productive. It sounds very cliche but just do small bits at a time and eventually you will build up enough momentum to do it all :) ❤️

Totally get this.. I find the thing that helps me the most is writing things down!!! And I say this and never do it but feel so relieved when I do 😅 ahhhh adhd for you.. I have a sheet for dot points of things I need to do (big texta, big words) then a seperate sheet to do dot points about each point on the first sheet (if that makes sense)… I’m a visual person so having it this way helps me sort things that are playing dodgem cars in my brain 😂😅😵‍💫 Also a clear physical space helps.. even if it’s just a completely clear desk to work at.. at the moment I’m working at reducing stimulation, mindfulness, and organing 🥰 So sorry for this long winded reply.. I hope some of it helps you 🥰
