Having hobbies is hard

This is a weird one but does anyone else feel like having hobbies and doing stuff with your free time feels like a chore haha

Yes so much. Used to be the opposite but as I have got older and my ADHD symptoms have changed I struggle with overwhelm I can’t get motivated to engage in hobbies

I tend to go all in on a hobby. I don't have a few house plants. I have 30+. And then it can def feel like a chore. 😕

So many unfinished hobbies (That I REALLY want to continue/complete!). So many open loops (A.KA. unfinished tasks) resulting in daily overwhelm.

Yes. One day I’ll finish all these crochet projects I’ve started…

It’s SO hard 😭 “I WANT to do these fun things, but if I do, then time will go by too fast and I won’t be able to do OTHER fun things!? I wanna work on this hobby, but is that really the best way to utilize my time? Is it even what I really want to do the MOST? Oh look, it’s already bedtime! 🤷‍♀️”

Having hobbies is easy! Sticking with them is hard. I found once I gether all of the tools, research everything, get really good at whatever it is, a handful of things always make me lose motivation to keep going.

Being “productive” with my free time by engaging in my hobbies rather than doom scrolling on my phone…. that feels impossible sometimes! Sometimes brain no want to think.

OMG…tell me about it. One comorbidity of ADHD is pain, because of the high stress associated with ADHD, it triggers cortisol release in our bodies leading to pain. I loved hiking as a way to reduce stress…it made my knees and hips hurt way too much. I tried adult coloring. I focused on the mandalas because focusing in the patterns calmed me, and centered my focus like nothing else before. It aggregated my carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel. I started reading a book…that came highly recommended, but 2 chapters in and I still can’t get interested. Then, I purchased a puzzle…still working on that one—so the jury’s still out. If you’re young and physically fit—try everything!!! Maybe you have multiple hobbies.

My god yes! It feels like the first step is the hardest step to take. I’ve been wanting to a bunch lately but I always say I’m going to sit down a decide what I want to do first, but the over-complicating wards me off.

Sometimes... for example, I haven't finished Hogwarts Legacy yet, even though I love the game, because every time I think about playing it, I feel like I'm "forcing" myself to, and I lose interest 🙃

Sometimes. For me (having two small kids) it's usually that I can't find enough time for my hobbies. But yes, a lot of the time after work I don't have the energy to start something unless the barrier to start is small.

Yah, sometimes, I feel like my hobbies become my actual work, and this makes me scared. Now I’m hyper focused on my music project while it’s already 2:28 am and my partner has been trying to fall asleep. Though, as I have those hyper focuses without a border for everyone (like headphones for me), I seriously worry that I overwhelmed those people who are around me with what I do now, no matter how much I need it to do now… Secondly, there are too much unfinished stuff that makes me feel really guilty about it! Knitting, music of different genres, handmade stickers, appropriate graffiti sketch to make it real later, some nail art ideas, then, cooking ideas, and this all comes with me who forgot to have a shower in time and looks like a crazy scientist 🤪 so the only thing I have to do is just work and work, and barely have the time for hobbies - so I make my current experience special

Hobbies are meant to bring accomplishment and joy, maybe you've started from the hard theoretical things trying to do it in the "right way". If it's too hard, just start from the simplest things. I tried to write a track in FL studio recently after wanting to do it for.. 10years? I waited until the right moment. But then I saw some samples and with samples, it was easy peezy. Hehehe

Pretty sure my husband is fed up with all the half started projects around the house. Any time I say I’m bored, he’ll remind me of the Lego set or puzzle that’s half done…

Yes. I want to ED out on the couch. And when I do get a new hobby, it comes with pre-emptive guilt.
