Mistakes

Anyone else have this thing where one mistake can ruin your entire day? Or is it just me?

All the time. It takes all or most of my spoons away.

100% I usually have a hard time moving past it. I replay that moment in my mind and spiral into anxiety

Yeah, totally understand. And the way it hurts is terrible.

I’m trying real hard to tell myself, “It’s not a bad day, just a bad hour”……. It’s helped a little, but again…. Trying 😃

I totally get this! One little mistake makes you feel like the rest of the day will be filled with mistakes as well, so, like, what’s the point? It’s all just going to be a “mistake” too. You’re so not alone in these feelings.

I’m so now and not-now that mistakes are so soon in the past that it’s hard to learn from them. Which is kind of the inverse of “one mistake can ruin my whole day”…

Yes because then I feel like a failure the rest of the day

Ohhh yeah…nothing ruins a day when a perfectionist screws up because of ADHD. And on that note…you gotta love the irony of perfectionism as a commodity of ADHD. 🤦‍♀️

Yes but usually it’s because I worry that my mistake will cause others to dislike me. As if others don’t make mistakes too. I forget to acknowledge myself as a human not as a perfect like superhero or something haha

Well, as a software developer, errors can ruin my day completely. BUT one of my friends told me something really wonderful. She said, "Mistakes aren't a part of you, but they're a part of the process." So, let's not take it personally :)

It takes something so small for that to happen. Doesn’t even have to be a big mistake.

I hate the spirals. It’s so hard for me to get out of them

It's not just you! One thing can send me into a spiral. That's when I have to try really hard to correct my thoughts, or distract myself with comedy or music....

Ugh, yes. The worst feeling. I cannot move on with my day until my brain decides I’ve been punished enough and I’ve made myself exhausted lol.

It sounds like many of us can ruminate over a mistake or screw up. Does anyone have tips on how to help oneself move on?

It’s not just you and it’s not just mistakes, it’s anything that disrupts my planned routine (for example, my pipe being broken when I went to smoke this morning). I have to actually take my self into taking another step in the day instead of completely shutting down.

For sure! Sometimes it breaks my list, other times it’s a headbuster, meaning it dwells in my head but doesn’t seem to have any effect on others.
