Are here some readers too?

Hey guys, one of my hobbies is reading. As a child, I read a lot of books, mostly fantasy. As I got older, I lost my love for reading because I was told that fantasy books were “too childish”. Later, I discovered that I also enjoyed crime novels and classics. Then, for years, I didn’t even read one book a year. Because of my depression, I wasn’t able to concentrate. After my ADHD diagnosis, I reclaimed my beloved hobby. Nowadays, I read differently than I used to. Most of the time, I listen to the audiobook while reading along with the book. This helps me concentrate on the story much better. Do you read? It can be tough especially for us.

Ich liebe es zu lesen....Manchmal klappt es manchmal nicht, wenn mein Hirn streikt und der Affe im Kopf wieder Chembalo spielt......tja,dann geht nur ein gutes Hörbuch oder ein Potcast.

I read like 500 to 1000 pages in a day if I pick up a book and people let me be for a few hours so…

If you like fantasy or sci-fi, you will love Úrsula K. Le Guin!! Earthsea saga is amazing and The Dispossessed is mindblowing. Don’t let anybody tell you what you have to read!!! Except Paulo Colheo, don’t lose time with that. 🫣

I love fantasy, thriller audio books too. I listen all the time since I can’t stand silence. I’m happy for you. We should all enjoy what we like 😊

I like psychology, social novels like Paulo Coelho; sometimes I read a crime novel. I also liked spy novels in my childhood, but I hated Harlequins – oh horror, pure marketing.

I’ve never read a book of him. Do you have a favourite?

I used to read a lot, as a kid and teenager, and even early adulthood. And then somewhere I lost the interest. Honestly, I think it was when I got deeper into dating my now husband, because he lived 45min away, while at his house anyway, and instead of reading during any downtime, we watched tv or movies. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Now though, I’m trying to get back into it. I’m reading and listening to a few different ones right now, which is unusual for me, BUT… I am unusual, so that explains that! lol Kidding; I know there are people who can read multiple books “at a time,” but I never thought it would be me.

It’s hard to get back in saddle when you paused for a while but it’s totally worth the effort. I often read a classic and a modern book parallel.

I love to read too. Always have been reading a lot, but now as an adult, I have to have time to really get into it. That’s why it sometimes gets somewhat lost in day-to-day busy life. As a teenager I’ve read a lot of the John Grisham books. Now I love the Dan Brown novels. I wish he’d write them faster though, it’s always such a long wait for the next one 😅 ah, and about fantasy being "too childish" - I’ve read all Harry Potter books as an adult and loved them, so whoever said that was just wrong 😅

I‘ve read the first and the second one in English already. It feels like I’m reading them for the first time because it’s long ago I read them in German. I’ve listened the audiobooks multiple times but reading a book is different. This time I listen to the Full-Cast-Edition while reading and it’s absolutely immersive 🤩 I prefer the original language way more than the translation.

So true - I read the first Harry Potter book in German and then re-read in Englisch too 😊 the other ones I read in English right away. Which version do you like better? (btw. I’m from Germany too)

I also read much less often than before, partly because reading requires you to do only that... . Today, the story really has to captivate me, and if it does, I won't let go until it's finished. But I have a lot of trouble doing only one thing at a time, so I've started with audiobooks, but the narrator really needs to put some heart into it...and some rhythm, otherwise I get bored The Harry Potter series read by Stefan Fry is simply magnificent! And no matter your age, you should read what you love (I sometimes reread books from when I was 12 😄🫶)

I highly recommend trying out listening to the audiobook while reading along at the same time. It has helped me so much since my symptoms became more pronounced.

I’m “eating” books since I can read. I still do and most books make me forget everything around me. But sometimes it’s hard to stay focused especially if I have to read them (for my job) or one isnot so good but I want to know how it ends

What do you do for a living? In my job as an architect, I often have to read legal texts, which I find really difficult.

Same, I pick up a book and I‘m glued to it until I‘ve finished it (also I even forget to eat when reading)

Yessss for architecture!! 🏠✍🏼 I studied that, too. I also love agriculture and gardening. Unfortunately, I’m not doing any of those things for a living. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I wish.
