Hi there ! I ´ ve got my driving licence since two weeks and I noticed

that I struggle with my car when my Ritaline fade away. Do you manage to drive without medication ? Or do you take your medication for driving purposes ?

When I first got my driver's license, I was also very insecure. That improved with time and practice. Back then, I didn't know anything about my ADHD. I've been taking medication for about two or three years now and I've noticed that I'm calmer while driving.

On a similar note 🎵. What often helps me is having cool air flow and EDM music blaring. It helps me focus and keeps me calm, entertained and stimulated. Especially on trips between 4-7 hours which I do to drive to Napa, Santa Barbara or Los Angeles. Also, if I have such drives I choose to do them early early morning because it is harder to drive in the evening regardless.

I am on two antidepressants: one for anxiety (that helps with depression), one for my PMDD (which I only take every 2 weeks) I am not on ADHD stimulants. I am also on a benzo. The benzo I think affects some of my confidence in coordination although I can drive safely. I notice that the week before my period I get more anxious tired, less executive function and this makes me more anxious and tired when driving. The PMDD antidepressant seems to have helped with these symptoms. Keeping me more active mentally, focused and alert.

What do you take for your PMDD? My doctor said that antidepressants usually take about some weeks to build up in your system before they really start working. If you only take them for your period, they won't work, or the initial side effects will be too severe.

Oh that’s exactly what I feel : more insecure when the meds fade away !

That’s interesting - curious to hear more about this from others!

I’ve been driving regularly and quite a lot since I’m 18 and just discovered this summer during a long distance trip that I drive way better on medication 😊 (I take meds for almost one year now). But I also have the feeling I get more insecure while driving in the evening/night when the meds wear off. Or I’m just feeling the difference more intense…
