Hi ! I'm pharmacist so I really need my meds to be very careful with medication I give. I make more mistakes without and I'm sooo lazy and lost in the space. I feel less depressed too. I don't take it if I'm home and I don't have anything else to do but relax because it's something that really improves your brain buuut it make me so tired when it's over. So I need rest without too. I use L-thyrosine too, a little protein that your brain use to make dopamine and it helps me with motivation. Even if research says that it's useless on ADHD brain... It really helps me ☺️

I've been through school, college and my masters without meds. Sometimes it was hard I I burned down a few times. In 2019 things got worse and I began treatment for generalized anxiety disorder. Only in 2023, 11m after giving birth to my son, my doctor suggested that I had adhd and that was what was behind the GAD. I spent 5yrs on antidepressants only and had no actually improvement in anxiety. One my doc suggested adhd and that I tried meds (to which I was against at first) my life has changed in ways I can't even explain I guess. But for starters: anxiety is like 90% gone. I still take my sertraline with the psychostimulant, but I realized that the clear mind that comes from Vyvanse is what actually works. My mind isn't all fast and foggy and filled with tasks I dont know how to start. It's like the path to actually doing stuff gets clear...so no need to gwt anxious. So I'm all in favour of using stimulants if they help you. I dont think I even want to stop using it, unless I have to for medical reasons. I had strategies all my life and I did really well so far. I have a nice carrer, a family and a great business. But I know how much the effort to do stuff took away from my mental health over the years, because of the lack of good executive functioning. Meds would have probably made my path less complicated...any way. I'm really OK with meds and have no problem with taling them 😅
I do, since I have my own will (18). The first medication was effektive but the aftereffects would not be good, like really tired or Headache. and another doeses kicked me one day down(anxious attack with headace, dizziness) so last month I got another. My concentration was better and I finally had some motivation to do things. I was able to go a day without my cell phone. (not everyday) But still after some headache. but its better for my sick school system. maybe I'll stop after that with meds. :) It's different for everyone and it depends on the body sitution.
Nah, no medicine because my family is very conservative. They think ADHD is a fancy word for people who are too lazy to concentrate. Now I'm trying to build a healthy and long-term way to manage my life plans. I think using Chatgpt and study with friends can help. Even cats around can help me focus. I will definitely try medicine when I can earn money my own but now I'm too busy with my university so it's still not the time. (if I can manage it my own better, I may not consider medicine in the future—I think the medicine using depends on how your ADHD affects your normal life: if you can try to handle it, it will be less necessary but optional)

So relatable! I found out that my ADHD was hereditary and quickly able to recognize who has ADHD in the family. I tried to tell them but oh well, they treat it as how you said it. An excuse for being lazy/not focusing. I do the same like you, working with chatgpt and my cat ^^. No friends tho /augh Hopefully your study and future career goes well! and get a medicine that works for you :D
It turns out I’ve been self-medicating with caffeine and later with Kratom … which I found extremely effective for focus when used correctly. After recently getting diagnosed, I’m trying medication … and I don’t really need caffeine or Kratom with meds. I still think Kratom is better so far, but we are still finding the right med and dose. I’m not fond of medication in general, but now I’m old enough to realize there are things you just can’t change with will power … I need glasses to read and meds to focus.
I got meds very recently and I’ve tried it for a week now. It was really nice: clarity in my head, doing things without any struggle, even being able to small talk fluently!! The downside is I get a huge headache when the medicine wears off.. for now I stopped taking it because of the headache. Hopefully I can find a solution for this, may be an even smaller dose or a different brand. I wonder if there are more people here experiencing the side effects and what they do about it?

That's awesome even though I can feel your headaches miles away. Did you communicate about the side effect to your psychiatrist?
Im taking it for 4 years now and it’s been helping me focus at work. If you don’t have a problem performing at work or school then maybe it doesn’t seem so crucial for you?
Oh boy I do struggle lol especially on procrastination and sunflowermuffin mentioned small talk which reminded me I have that too lol The concept of medication on mental wellbeing is just pretty foreign here, information and services for ADHD might be available but it's not widely known
I do think that even if you can survive, it doesn’t mean you can’t benefit from meds. A person who has trouble walking but can walk, may benefit from using crutches. It would be weird to say to that person he doesn’t need crutches just because he can walk without them. The crutches can make his life easier, get him farther and faster and make him less tired while doing so. :)
I'm on a similar situation. I don't yet have any medication as most of my life until now I almost knew a 100% about having ADHD but just recently I got through the process of testing it. So I'm still waiting for my doctor to schedule a visit to the psychiatrist to get the needs. In the meantime I'm still learning how to manage my life and organize myself better. About medication, I don't have any experience with it but I've heard that it makes a big difference in our abilities and is something we will continue to use indefinitely as long as we want to feel the benefits. Wow, hope everything goes well on your end and the medication vibes with you. Which makes me more curious on the medication effect on a daily basis. Suppose it help us that would vary from person to person but if it sounds good (no brainfog, no procrastination, etc. in general), it might convince me to take a test lol
I don't have anything for the moment. But I'll start medication for bipolarity at the end of this month as my doctor gave me the diagnosis few days ago.
