Glaucoma Specialist
I received devastating news that I have irreversible vision loss damage in my right eye due to late stage glaucoma (I only see black in my right eye). The doctor suspects I have uncontrolled diabetes so I need to check as soon as possible. If possibly, do you have a referral to a glaucoma specialist affiliated with a NYC hospital? I am she’ll-shocked and so so upset. I am only 36 years old and they do not see this before 50 years old. Also, if you know of any glaucoma support groups to recommend, please let me know. Mother to two young daughters.

My mom and grandma both had glaucoma and like you, my mom developed it early in life. HOWEVER, neither of them ever lost their total sight, and the ailment is treated with eye drops. Using cannabis, drinking wine, etc., helps reduce the pressure in your eyes, which is exactly what you want to prevent. I honestly believe I escaped the glaucoma because of habitual cannabis use! Ironically, my brother (who is adopted but you’d never be able to tell), has glaucoma now. I think getting your diabetes under control will help you the most; see a good ophthalmologist, use your eye drops, and take measures to reduce the eye pressure. I hope everything works out for you and know that it’s not as bad as you might think. I’m sending good thoughts your way!
